Timo: My name is Timo Bieker aka. YoTimo and over the last few years, I have been able to successfully emabark upon many entrepreneurial ventures. This includes building a clothing brand (over $10,000 in sales), DropShipping and scaling multiple social media accounts (over 1 million total followers).

One question I get asked a lot is “how did you start so many businesses?”. For a lot of individuals, running their own business sounds like a dream come true. But few realize how daunting it can actually be. Nonetheless, once things actually fall into place, it can be quite an enriching journey.

In the time period we are in, starting a business is easier than ever. Just whip out your laptop and have a set of skills that you have acquired and you’re pretty much good to go. But getting started is only the beginning.

Over the last few years, I have learned many lessons along the way as I built and grew multiple businesses. But here are the 5 lessons that I believe will help you the most right now.

1. Failure will Occur

Not everything is going to go as smoothly as planned. You are going to fail, and that is okay. It happens to the best of us. Failure by itself is a stepping stone to sucess. But failing and not getting back up is true failure. If your business doesn’t attract customers, that’s fine. But make sure to identify exactly where you are going wrong. Then fix that issue and try one more time. Rinse and Repeat.

2. Listen to Your Heart

Not everyone has what it takes to build a business and not everyone wants to become an entrepreneur. And that’s okay. Listen to what your heart is telling you to do. Your mind is going to keep chattering on and on, but your heart is the one that will guide you towards your truest self. This is how you can ultimately fulfill your ambitions and do what it is that really makes you happy. Make sure to listen to your heart at times and go with intuition rather than logic.

3. It Won’t Be Easy

Building and growing a business is not as simple as it sounds. It may be easy in theory, but there are a whole set of challenges involved. No one said it is going to be easy and you just have to face the fact. But, the rewards and growth that come with it are well worth the challenges you face.

4. Make Sure to Work Smart

People get so caught up in working as hard as they can that they forget to work smarter. If there are certain tasks you can outsource, then go ahead and do that. Don’t waste your time working on unnecessary tasks. Make sure to keep the big picture in mind. That being said, there is going to be a lot of responsibility on your hands and you just have to step up to the plate. But if you can work smarter and cut out the unnecessary stuff, you will feel a lot more fulfilled with your work.

5. Focus on Your Vision

Why do you want to build a business? What is your ultimate goal? Sometimes we get so trapped up in the smaller things that we forget why exactly we started something. I’m not saying to disregard the smaller steps, but make sure to think about your vision from time to time as well.

I truly hope this list will help you accomplish more in your business ventures. If you are planning to start your own business, I wish you all the best.
